Please join us this Wednesday afternoon for this month's Lunch and Learn from 12:30 - 1:30 PM as we welcome Dr. Melvin Barnes!

Melvin Barnes Jr. is a teacher-scholar specializing in East Asian, Transnational, and African American history. Hailing from Northwest Ohio, Melvin earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo and his PhD from The Ohio State University. His research explores race in East Asia and US-China relations. In 2020, he successfully defended his dissertation, "Revolution and Race: The Chinese Imagination of the African American Freedom Struggle, 1920-1989." After earning his PhD, Melvin worked at the Ohio Humanities Council before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Lunch and Learns are monthly events where a faculty/staff member from campus or a Flint community member will tell us about themselves and their academic or professional journey and also answer any questions people in the space will have for them. So if you ever want to learn more about someone's profession, feel welcome to join in while having something to eat since food is always provided!
