Adult First Aid, CPR & AED Certification

As part of Week of Wellness, Rec Services is offering a FREE Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED Certification at the Rec Center. To successfully obtain a certification, participants must register and complete *both* the required online learning prior to class (approx. 2-3 hours) and the in class portion (2 hours).

NOTE: This will cover adult lay responder rescues only, and not pediatric or professional rescuing. Registration will open January 6. Check your registration confirmation email from Campus Connections for details on how to access the Red Cross content.

Eligibility: This is for UM-Flint students only, and students will be verified by the email address and/or name provided upon registration with the Red Cross. Non-students will be removed from the class roster.

A core strengthening and conditioning program that uses functional movements designed to prepare a person for life contingencies through extremely varied and challenging workouts. It improves cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. Participants perform multiple, diverse and randomized physical challenges that are always changing to keep participants motivated. All exercises can be modified depending on your fitness level. The class is limited to the first 16 participants.

How to Find Wellness in an Anti-Fat World

Join Amanda Taylor, Lecturer IV in Psychology, and Hilary Murmers, LGBTQIA+ Coordinator, in this facilitated discussion on weight, health, and wellbeing. This talk is centered in fat liberation, and will touch on body positivity and body neutrality. This is not a space to talk about dieting or weight loss, but rather a space to learn about the harmful effects of anti-fat bias. Participants will gain a historical perspective on anti-fat bias and leave with concrete strategies for finding wellness at all sizes. Everyone is welcome! Lunch will be provided!

Health & Exercise Screening - ACSM Exercise is Medicine® on Campus

Join the Exercise Science Club for a free Health & Exercise Screening Day on Monday, January 26, from 1–3 PM in UCEN MI Rooms A & B.

This event is part of the ACSM Exercise is Medicine® On Campus campaign, which promotes physical activity as a vital sign of health and encourages students to take an active role in improving the health and well-being of the campus community.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about their current health and fitness levels through a variety of basic assessments led by Exercise Science students. Screenings available include heart rate, blood pressure, body fat percentage, handgrip strength, upper, lower, and core muscular endurance, and cardiorespiratory fitness using a 3-minute step test.

This event is open to all students, faculty, and community members, and is a great way to gain insight into your physical health, ask questions, and learn how regular exercise supports long-term health. No prior fitness experience is required!

All students 18 years or older are invited to complete the UM-Flint Student Health Survey, which helps UM-Flint ensure we are offering resources and program to support your needs.

Please check your email for an invitation from the National College Health Assessment to complete the UM-Flint Student Health Survey.
